(I hope this doesn't sound arrogant) But, in respect to the question......neither my wife or myself finished college. And in comparison with that chart......we have been blessed tremendously. Neither my dad or father-in-law went to college, both can be described as wealthy. I just don't hold much reverence in a piece of paper. Actually what I despised most about college was the faculty. Most were liberal hacks.
Now having said that.....my daughter WILL go to an ivy league school.

ditto that. My husband is making more than any of those starting salaries, BUT the downside is that he's been in the hospitality industry since high school, and it has taken him many many years to get to the point we are now. I do think that him not having the degree may have hurt him in moving up sooner, BUT I think taking all this time to learn what he needed to do (which is not taught in college, the people skills and such) has made him a much stronger manager.
Our kids won't likely attend an ivy league college, but they will attend college, regardless what they decide to do in life.

Me!
I think this is misleading - it would be a more accurate account if the chart was of the median rather than the average. All it takes is a few high-paying jobs to skew that number. I could see that being a starting salary for a PHD ChemE, possibly even an MS, but not just a BS.
