I'm thinking of buying this. (Actually, my husband needs to buy me an anniversary present, so I guess he's thinking of buying this..

Anyone using one currently? They seem like a cool gadget. Most of my runs are out in the open, not too much tree cover to lose the GPS signal.

It got really good reviews here. I want one, I just don't feel like spending my mad money on one yet.

I ordered mine. Purple Hayes, thanks for the review link, I did go back and read everything!
I'm hoping it will arrive soon. I bought from gps.marketplace.com, for 133.00-that was shipping and everything!

Hmmmm.....Gadget Girl wants one now!! I have the GPS, already sold my Fitsense because that sucked.....but what I hate about the GPS that I have (an older model) is that you have to manually hit the splits just like you do on your regular running watch so you're never really accurate because you have to page through the settings to get back to chrono from monitor. I didn't read all six pages of the Garmin thread, I am assuming that the Forerunner does this automatically, i.e. that you can set it to record mile splits?

Like HYPER says, you just have to tell it to record mile splits...I haven't even gotten any data downloaded to my computer yet and I'm still so happy with this gadget.
I spent the night at my sister's and then went for a 6 mile run with the Garmin out into the countryside. It was so nice, to be able to just run, and yet still log the mileage and pace I was going at. I haven't even used the virtual partner or intervals feature yet on this!!

WOO HOO!!! I just ordered mine from Amazon = $120.59 and free shipping! Dancing Banana I'm psyched, I finally read all six pages of that other thread and can't wait til it gets here.

I was concerned though, I do run on trails a lot and my GPS does fine with not losing the signal....for those of you who have used both, is the Forerunner any better or worse for that? Some of the reviews at Amazon were really thumbs down

It's going to depend on the trail. One set of trails I run on is fairly wide open, used for skiing in the winter, so it's prolly a 14' wide swath and I'll keep a signal through them all. Then another set of trails I frequent is among overhung huge pines that make for an excellent shady run but there's no break in the canopy. I get broken signals under those. dunno

Today I ran my hills route and also programmed the little virtual partner to run time and pace with me. I set it to a 9.47 pace...a little too ambitious. I changed the MODE back to normal viewing after I kept reading how far ahead the VP was in front of me.. Very Happy Apparently, I get to run the hills and VP does not. VP finished the run 0.4 miles ahead of me. I liked the little runner icon on his knees though.

Getting the data downloaded...I was pleasantly surprised to see I can view the elevation of my runs!! With all my hills that I do, I like seeing that! I would like to figure out how to export this so I could post it online. I haven't gotten that figured out yet.

Next button to try should be the intervals.
