No, not the kind George was trying to watch in that Seinfeld episode.....
Last night we got to our last birthing/baby care class and saw the dolls lined up. We were to practice changing diapers, bathing the baby, dressing them, etc. So I let my hubby do it all. It was pretty funny watching him give this little baby doll a spongebath and put a diaper on it. He got the hang of it pretty quick. I think he's going to be great! I just wonder how it will go with a screaming and peeing child rather than a lifeless doll!!!!!
Parenthood here we come. The classes are over and now I guess we are supposed to be ready....ya, right!

What do you expect from this bunch putting a title like that?!
Changing diapers is a piece of cake. Bathing is a little more tough, at least the picking up afterwards while they are still wet. I don't know, maybe men are scared of hurting the baby and pick them up too daintily. Does that make sense?

I know I know I keeping hoping joel will behave.....
I get what you are saying about hurting the baby, I definitely see that with my hubby. I think especially being a big guy, I think he's afraid he'll drop it or something. But he was so cute concnetrating and everything on doing the stuff last night.

Molly, Tammi and I never had a problem with kids and their baths, in fact with the nice warm water I think it soothed them. Randy your right though they get pretty slippery when wet!!

well, not specifically on bathing kids, it was a general birthing/labor/delivery/baby care thing.
The worst part of the whole class was the slide they showed doing a circumcision--OUCH!!!!

IT is amazing how quickly that parenting gene kicks in once the baby is around. Our class didn't offer a bathing instruction so we just kind of winged it., with instructions from the Nurse who showed us at the hospital of course. Just remember they are real slippery coming out of that tub! Otherwise you will do great.
Don't forget to remind him that the pictures go in front!

Since we had Kim first we became used to her peeing after we got her out of the tub. Then when we had Mike, and he did the same thing. It took us a few times to realize that with a boy they have a little more range than the girl.

I was afraid with the first one but not too much. My parents had my little bro when I was about 10 so i got some experience with babies then. All worry about hurting the baby went out the window when my wife and I had the 2nd kiddo 13 months after the first one. Now it was a list of things that had to be done, no fooling around. And yes, Cappy, you learn to cover the boys quickly when you lift them out of the water. Range and Aim are the name of the game for boys.

When we had our first one the hospital had a video we were supposed to watch about bathing the baby. They were obsessive about making sure we watched this video and knew how to give the baby a bath before we went home. In their mind that seemed to be the most important thing about childrearing.
When we went home with our daughter we carefully gave her a spongebath every other day as instructed, being careful to wash every precious inch of her while she screamed though the whole thing. She was much happier when she was able to have a real bath.
By #3 we'd wave a wet wash cloth in her general direction and figure that would get her by until her cord fell off and we could dunk her.
I have a picture somewhere of Sweet Pea's first bath - I'll have to see if I can find it.
