Posted: 08/19/03 - 11:52 Post subject: more reviews...printers
We're also getting a new printer and are having trouble deciding. We want to be able to print good photos, but also need good text quality. Someone recommended the Canon i850 and i950 and both had great photo quality, but the text looked terrible!
We are thinking about the HP 5550, seems to have good reviews for printing pictures and text. Anyone have this? Do you like it?
Any other good recommendation for a good text and photo printer???

I'm an Epson user myself, currently own an old 600 a 740 and an 880. Good text and photo quality. Disliked my lone HP and gave it away.

Our Epson 777i does fine. It has excellent picture and text quality. I printed out an entire proof copy of a cookbook I wrote to take to the printer. (It was text with some graphics)
It does an amazing job of printing pics especially when you use photo quality paper.
We have owned other printers but keep coming back to the Epson because of the quality. It also has separate cartridges so when you run out of black ink, which you invariably will, you don't have to replace the color ink, too.

I forgot to add that there are some really well-priced printers out there that will take your memory stick/card from your digital camera and preview your pics on a little screen--then you pick the ones you want to print. Some will even print you a proof sheet to pick from. Many of these don't even need the computer to do this function. They are really cool!

The key to good to excellent quality photo printing on an inkjet (or any printer actually) is to use the recommended paper by the printer manufacturer. The price of the paper that they recommend should be a consideration of the printer you decide upon.

Hey thanks for the input. I wouldn't have known that. We went with the HP 5650. Got a good deal on Amazon and it's supposed to arrive today! It seems to be a great choice for good text and photo quality. Hopefully we'll like it!
