after reading your post in childhood lies....thought you might enjoy this.

Wish I could link to the article in the newspaper.....but I'll sum it up.

A neurosurgeon (you know the physican that makes mega-mega bucks) that my husband use to work with has gotten called up. My husband whom resigned from his commission when his time was served was working with this guy and questioned this surgeon why on earth he has not resigned. The guy pretty much said well, he gets $500 a month in the reserves and "they are so screwed up they won't find me, they think I'm a general surgeon."

So for that extra $500/mo this is what it's going to cost him.....I'm guessing a neurosurgeon makes 800-1000k yr that won't be supplemented by the difference like some employers because 1)he works for a profit hospital where he is an owner. Then another thing is, if we bomb the sh*& out of Iraq....the troops may pull out....but it's more than likely that physicians will have to stick around for the goodwill of civilians.

So say the neuro doc is over there for 1-2 years....he comes home...to what practice.....he has lost his entire referral base!

My point is. Yes, many men/women join the reserves for the paycheck only. But I can understand it when they have 4 kids and an avg-joe paying job. But a neurosurgeon!!!!

That makes absolutely no sense to me!

Yep. That is weird. I can understand it when you are using it to supplement your salary. But a neurosurgeon?

What a strange world we live in.....

It is to bad that he had that attitude about it going in. It would be nice to hear about the doctors that give their time and skills to help charities and I think volunteering for the Guard is another way of helping out.

Oh well maybe some good will come out of it and his skills will allow him to save some lives.

actually, in the newspaper article, he was stated as looking forward to doing his duty.......so he could be one of the good guys. When it comes to physicians......well, I don't usually equate generosity and good-hearted in the same paragraph. But really there are some good ones that don't just have $$ on the brain. I do know a few eyeball docs that use their vacation time to go help some underprivileged countries
