I've noticed we go all out in everything we do. A lot of us are in school, the majority of us in school also work full-time. Most of the parents here have a gazillion kids. When we train for something, we go to extremes to get in our workouts. Many of us hold multiple jobs. Our nonathletic interests are wide and varied. When we sheetrock, we love it so much it takes us weeks and weeks*. Between it all, we watch many movies and much TV, and read many books (often more than one at a time).

Just us, or all runners? Discuss.

you could say that many of us are type A personalities and driven to achieve, to do our best in any pursuit that we choose.

or you could say that we are a bunch of obsessive/compulsive freaks with a wide variety of presentations and behaviors dunno

perhaps as runners we lack that special logic where people stop to think about the necessary steps/ordeals/effort needed to achieve a certain satisfaction... we kinda just decide we like it and do it.

then again ...

maybe if we stop to question it our happy little worlds will come crashing down, and we'll lose our magical powers and appreciation for all things simple and wonderful.

Type A and darn proud of it. Mr. Green

Of course, I don't have any of the annoying traits that you other type A's have.

I'm far from type-A, but can understand the way a running buddy of mine puts it. He's an alcoholic on the wagon and he always says he just traded one compulsion for another. I do think distance running attracts a highly committed personality type.

Not all runners and not even all of us...you can take that to the bank.

I'm not the person who goes all out in everything I do. I don't even know if I go all out in the things I enjoy doing. Do I have multiple jobs...or even A job? Nope. Could I get one? Sure, a managerial position at a TPC golf course was just offered. Will I take it? Doubtful. I enjoy my life as it is right now. I don't need the money and I sure don't need to travel to/from the clubhouse every day for the entire golf season. Maybe I'm lucky that I'm so easily satisfied.

Of course, this all could change tomorrow.

I think it takes a certain personality to dedicate yourself to running. That personality transfers and vice versa to life.
We plan, train, do, follow through, commit, and get obsessed with it. Those are good qualities for work to. Runner's likely work hard because they feel good, are in better shape plus need the extra money to buy running stuff.
