I know heavy weights and low reps gets you big and lighter weights with lots of reps gets you toned.
Howevah.... I only have 2x15# dumbells and 2x20# dumbells in my basement.
An upper body workout includes:
20#
bench press
flys
rows (for the back)
shoulder shrugs
triceps
obliques
15#
curls reg
boxer press
curls (hammer)
military press
curls (? - to the outside)
I do these really fast and close together, so it gets aerobic. I've been doing 2 sets of 12 for each exericse. Doing the 20# group first, then the 15# group.
But, I kinda seem to be gaining muscle mass. I can't imagine using lighter weights.
Would 3 sets of 8 be better for me than 2 sets of 12, if my goal is to build strength and tone - yet not gain too much extra weight and bulk?
