If you had to pick one over the other... what would you do?
Which is your favorite mag and why?

I just signed up for something on Active.com and it gave me the option to subscribe to running times for only $3 so I did it. I will be able to compare the two shortly. However like RR I do live for fluff, if this is the equivalent to picking US Weekly over US News and World report then I think I already know which I prefer.

Well, I actually have a subscription to both. Overall I actually read Runners World more than Running Times. I really like their showcasing of different cities. On the other hand Running Times tends to have better running articles.
For recreational runners such as myself, I give a slight nod to Runners World. For more serious runners, the articles in Running Times are more appropriate.

My list:
1. Track and Field News
2. Marathon and Beyond
3. Running Times
4. Runners World
Runner's World is heavily focused on fitness, something I don't care about in the slightest. They come right out and tell you that competitive or even serious running is a bad thing. They sometimes have good articles, but the magazine is really about a different sport than the one I do.

I'm a 2-timer too. RT is defintely less fluffy, but it is also just less, it's just not a substantial periodical when you take away the race calendar and race ads. RW is definitely turning a new leaf though. They've turned over most of their columnists and I have to admit, the past two issues have had some good interviews and historical perspective bits. I'm genuinely happy with the new direction.
Some of the best bang for your buck though is going to come from any publications your own state has. Here in Minnesota we have "Minnesota Running" which is a publication of the MN Distance Runners Association, which is a sister group to the MN-USATF. Being a member puts the subscription in the mailbox. So mostly, I'd encourage you all to dig up what your state's running association is and become a member to get a magazine that keeps you in touch with the races and places most near and dear to you.

I agree with this sentiment, I feel the same about Inside Texas Running.

I get Georgia Runner. But it is pretty weak. It's basically a collection of road race applications from around the state (mostly non-Atlanta).

RW, but I've never read RT. So much for comparative literature.

RW I subscribve too. Greg gets RT (or at least used too) and we swap them out.
RT is a bit more techinical without the fluff. RW tries to hit a broader audience I believe. RT is for the more serious.
