Anyone doing this run? I live in Philly and am pretty new to running but am thinking about giving it a try. I know some people who have done it and they love it. I did the Broad Street Run in May and it was incredible. I struggled a bit , but ended up finishing in 1:40 and I was really just happy to finish.
Would love to meet up with some people who are going to do the race!

Slacker. I can't miss this race. Even if it's a week after my 1/2 Ironman. It's a great race.
Po-po's in, too.

For those of you who follow elites:
| Quote: | JHPDR Welcomes Back Olympian Jennifer Rhines and Khalid Khannouchi
2004 Olympian Jennifer Rhines of Ardmore, PA will be a special guest of this September's Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run. Rhines will represent the United States in the Olympic Marathon at Athens this summer. She has emerged as one of America's top road racers, following an All-American career at Villanova, where she was three-time NCAA 5,000 meter champion. A 2000 US Olympian in the 10,000 meter, Jen says "In 2000 I set a goal of running the marathon at Athens." She realized her goal with a third-place finish at April's Olympic Trials with a marathon PR of 2:29:57.
Rhines returns to Philadelphia after a fast second-place finish last year behind Leah Malot at the 2003 JHPDR. She plans to run the Distance Run again this year, capping a busy race weekend. Jen will speak Friday afternoon and Saturday at the Race Expo at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, and on Saturday morning she will serve as emcee of the Philadelphia Children's Run on the Parkway.
Another old friend returns to the Distance Run this year. After a one-year hiatus, 32 year-old Khalid Khannouchi of Ossining, NY will attempt to add an unprecedented fourth JHPDR men's open title to his glorious running resume. Khannouchi holds the American record for both the marathon (2:05:38 in London in 2002, a world record at the time) and the half-marathon (1:00:27, set in the Distance Run in 1997).
A naturalized American citizen born in Morocco, Khalid has suffered ill-timed injuries before the marathon Trials for both the 2000 and 2004 US Olympic teams. He is now running strongly again, and comes to Philadelphia en route to the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon this October. |
