I really enjoy weight lifting. My guess is that most if not all runners could benefit from some type of upper body lifting program. I doubt the very elite runners want to put the additional weight on themselves but for the rest of us the slight weight gain seen from dropping the fat and adding lean muscle isn't going to hurt our times one bit. I actually enjoy the "you don't look like a runner" comments I get because so many people associate being a runner with being ultra-thin.

I can bulk up pretty fast I would probably be a better bodybuilder then triathlete But, then I would get to spend as much time outside.

Only when I'm doing curls and the veins pop out of my biceps. Once I stop they return to my normal little arms though.

Sure you would! You gotta do the cardio to keep the fat off the muscle. I don't plan on stopping that, but I get such a better buzz from lifting than anything else, including running. WOO HOO!

Yeah that ticks me off.... when I'm done lifting and get dressed my shirt sleeves barely fit over the biceps but shortly after I arrive at work they've shrunk back down to normal.

Patience.......they'll grow eventually, one day you'll just be like, hey, where'd they come from??? THAT is the other cool thing about lifting, the results kinda sneak up on you just when you're about to give up.
I honestly can't imagine anyone not liking it.....

Hmmm...blood flow engorging the muscles, then dissipating...sounds familiar...

I really enjoy using my Bowflex, Genie. It feels so good to work my muscles to fatigue... I stopped for a while, but when I was doing it 3x a week, I could really see a difference in my muscles. I still have decent arm muscles (both upper and lower), but I need to get rid of some of the flab to see everything else!! Hopefully the cardio and better eating habits will help there.
What is especially neat for me is that my kids all want to use the bowflex. Libby's about tall enough to start doing some of the exercises, but the boys are still too young. Hopefully though when they're all older they will be as into it as I am becoming, again!
