Posted: 06/01/04 - 12:33 Post subject: Movie Review: Ike: Countdown to D-Day
Produced and shown by A&E Network. This film gets into the mindset of General Dwight D. Eisenhower (Ike) in the months, weeks, days and hours leading up to the infamous D-Day invasion of Normandy, France.
Tom Selleck played the title role and did an outstanding job portraying Ike.
I found the movie to be very historically accurate, as it showed how Eisenhower was an able leader and delegator, and how he kept together the Allies during the crucial period of the war.
Perhaps the most moving scene of the whole film was when Ike met me with the men of the 101st AB prior to them embarking on their now famous landing behind the lines.
For any history buff this is a must see movie. Very well done.

Drat, I wanted to see "Ike" and I missed it!
Do you know what time it is on again?
PS: you mean "101st airborne", right?

Thank you muchly. I'll have to tape it.
I was referring to 101 as opposed to the 10 that was up there at first, but it is fixed now. So either you edited it or I am on crack. Both are quite likely.

will be watching it tongiht. Ike had a difficult job. He commanded the largest army ever assembled. Had to deal with political considerations, maniacal generals, top secret planning, and a very very capable enemy. He was truly a great leader. Perfect for the position. He had a great staff and loved the men he led.
