Lucy did it....
I am the proudest person in the world. I won't bore you with all the details, mostly because I don't know them, I wasn't with her, but she finished.
I finished and ran back about a half mile to meet her. The course has 1 medium sized bridge at about the 25 mile mark, so I ran just over the bridge to coax her over.
I waited, burning in the sun, for about 45 minutes until I finally saw her. She was looking rough and I could tell she was ready to be done. I started yelling her number and name. "COME ON LUCY, YOU CAN DO IT MARATHONER. I LOVE YOU, COME ON...." She got over the hill and into the chute. I ran on the outside yelling to her the whole way. I was kinda weaving in and out of the other spectators.
Her saga started with a tear in her muscle in her left leg that had her sidelined for about 5 weeks. She was good and ran in the pool, but lost a lot of fitness. That healed and then she had a breast cancer scare. She was way to scared and depressed to run until after the biopsy. During the procedure, the doc must have hit a vessel and it left her breast bruised, BAD. It was extremely painful, and she couldn't/wouldn't run. She got the results of the biopsy on Friday before the Sunday run. Benign.
So, 6 weeks of no running prior to her marathon and she ended with a 5:16:55.
I ran a 3:38:45. I haven't run anything longer then 6 miles since IMFL, and only did that a few times.. Pretty crappy, but I decided that I was not gonna get injured out there for no good reason.

Congratulations to Lucy and you both!!!
I knew you had mentioned she had an injury, but then the breast biopsy on top of that...no doubt I wouldn't be running with that pain either. Six weeks off, that took some cojones to keep on with the idea of running the marathon too!!!
That's great!! Tell Lucy welcome to the club, and her next marathon will be much smoother!!!

WOO HOO!!!!! WAY TO GO LUCY!!!!!! (Does this mean she's not mad at me anymore for turning you on to the tri thing?? ) With everything on her plate lately, she should be proud of herself.
And I too hope any marathon I run is as "crappy" as yours. Not in my wildest dreams could I pull that kind of time.....
