Posted: 12/18/02 - 12:04 Post subject: I've finally come HOME!!!!
Man, am I feeling great today! Had my interview with the chair of the graduate department at school last night...what an awesome lady and a true humanitarian! Her first words to me were: "I've looked over your file and am VERY impressed. I haven't seen Miller scores (entrance exam) this high in many years. You could have gotten into U of Penn with this portfolio, why are you here?"
That's pretty much ALL I needed to hear! Penn is, as you know, an IVY LEAGUE school!!!!! I told her my undergrad experience at our school was so positive that I wouldn't have thought of going anywhere else. Which is true, it's a great school with an excellent faculty, all of whom are practitioners, so you get a good "real life" flavor in addition to the standard lectures. But just hearing that from her, a former Penn professor and a well-known doctor in our field, say that, really made me feel great. Especially after the last few months of hell I have been through here at work and the constant battle for respect I engage in.
I finally feel that I've come home--home to my own field where I too am well-respected and admired, so unlike the atmosphere here in my lowly coordinator position without Ph.D. In a research environment, you might as well clean toilets for the respect you get. She and I already discussed research opportunities as well as her connections at CHOP (our Children's Hospital, where Abby was). They have several programs I am very interested in interning at, and one in particular for children and teens with chronic illnesses, two of which I suffer from myself-CFIDS and Fibromyalgia. She herself has worked with CFIDS patients for years so she has a full understanding of my illness and the challenges I face daily. She already let me know my butt stands to get kicked if I overextend myself and get sick during school and she advised me to not try to bite off more than I can chew (too late!!!! hehehe)
So, I am in a fantastic mood today, and suddenly, all the nonsense that has been going on here really doesn't mean that much anymore. I just got my Christmas present!
