Apologies to blue for the title.
So anyway, tonight I called one of the girls that I went see the concert with on Friday. Small talk, blah blah blah, then I ask her out to dinner. She says, "I don't know what's going on this week. Call me later during the week." Kinda hard to read into that little bit, but I didn't sense much enthusiasm. It seems to me that if she wanted to go, other stuff that she didn't yet know about wouldn't be more important. I kinda get the feeling that she's just putting off telling me no. But I dunno. I'll call her Wednesday and judge from that I guess.
What do you think?

I am assuming you're pretty young.
Me, I'd cut my losses. Too many girls out there to waste your time on someone who can't at least give you a yes or no for one dinner.
I know I will get a lot of slack for this opinion, but that is my take.

I'd call her one more time. If you don't get a definate answer out of her then she don't plan on going.

Actually Monk, what you said is actually a compliment to Mecheng.
Mecheng, you're a nice guy. You deserve to have a girl chase you a little, too.
So, unless this girl is the end-all, be-all of the girl kingdom, I would cool off on her and cast my eye about the campus.

No slack from here. I totally agree with you. If she's interested, and she's not into playing games (i.e. hard to get), she would have said yes. Unfortunately, women have been able to take the chicken's way out. While men are typically the ones who have to summon up the courage to ask (and face rejection) in the first place, the women have had it easy by not having to be honest, all under the guise of not wanting to hurt his feelings.
So MechEngDropout, give it another go on Wednesday if you want, but don't be surprised if her answer is much the same. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you though, just in case your call took her by surprise or something!

I agree with both of these statements. Good way of putting it.

I like Monk's and OL's sentiments as well. I hate games and I think you can do better than to have to read a girl's mind. Maybe give her one more chance since she didn't tell you yes or no, she legitimately could have something going on, maybe plans with someone else she's not seeing exclusively, and its not fair for you to assume she's playing a game either, but if she dodges it again, forget it.

jackass lol.
work it Mech, work it. ps. if she says "depends what's going on" more then once... bail. if a person is waiting to see if anything comes up before they decide to go with you, chances are they won't. been there. done that. it's a nice kick in the pants when you put it together.
but good luck nevertheless

Gotta go with Cheryl. I'd give her the benefit of the doubt because maybe you caught her off guard of she was in the middle of something and that was the easiest way to handle the call at the time.

Hey Mech!
It seems most of the people here have said what I was going to say. I congratulate you on having the guts, balls, cahoney's whatever you want to call them to work up the courage to ask her out. Maybe you did catch her a little off guard so ask her one more time. If she still is non-committal then just walk away.
Good Luck,

I agree with monk, cut your losses.
She may have been waffling, but she's gotta learn that stuff like that don't play when you're not in high school anymore. At least you may have saved other guys from being left hanging in the future.

Since you get the feeling that she's putting off telling you no, I'd go with that instinct and not call her again. Her loss, buddy, not yours. That's just me though. I'm a biotch like that.

Mech,
for your sake...I hope this girl doesn't call you back and ask you out now...I hope you don't get married and have kids together and all that sort of stuff. She's obviously EVIL!
I guess, you never know on this...She actually MIGHT have something big going on, and have to wiggle out of it....You never know...It all depends on how much you are willing to put yourself through for this girl. You are the only one who can answer that.

Ahh yes, I was waiting for someone to post this. Really that's all it ever comes down to. You can't make anyone fall for you, but sometimes if you try hard enough they'll give in just to shut you up. I've never had good results from persevering, but I'll give it a second call. And if I get nothing, I'll bail.
