Suppose you're baking cookies, and you have two shelves in your oven. You fill them with cookie sheets but you still have some dough left over. It's about enough for 3-6 more cookies.

If they're plain old butter cookies, or Christmas cookes, definite eat the extra dough. Otherwise, save it and make more when the cookie sheets become available.

I'd probably eat it.
I think the right answer though is to either save it for another day, or just make a smaller batch right now. Regardless, you cannot go wrong, IMO. If only all of our troubles were like this!
