FBI agents investigating U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon (R., Pa.) conducted six raids this morning - including at the homes of his daughter and a longtime friend.
The article is a bit long but this does have a wiff of political motivation in its timing. Lest we forget, The Congressman seems to have had a major part in this.

An interesting paragraph:
The Inquirer reported in 2004 that Weldon had lobbied federal officials on behalf of one of those firms, Itera, the huge and controversial Russian natural gas company. Weldon also complained to Karl Rove, President Bush's top political adviser, about Itera's treatment by the federal U.S. Trade and Development Agency. Itera paid $500,000 to Karen Weldon and Sexton's firm. The contract was signed in Sept. 30, 2002, six days after the congressman helped arrange a dinner at the Library of Congress to honor Itera and Igor Makarov, the firm's chief executive officer.

He is my local congressman, and he is a tough race. The democrat heavyweights have been in this area campaigning on his opponents behalf. The Philadelphia Inquirer is not know to be very friendly to Republican candidates, (although the new CEO is a big Santorum supporter)
This allegation has come up before, and will not affect my vote for him. He has done a great job for this district, and has always supported the fire service, the latter means a lot to me. Curt has represented this district well, and deserves to be re-elected.
I have no comment as to the allegations, because personally I don't care. The tactics of politicians these days is a disgrace, both parties are equally as guilty. The character assinations, the negative ad's. Let's hear about the issues, that's what matters to me.
People wonder why voter turnout is so low. Its hard to tell what is BS or truth. I don't know who or what to believe anymore. The spin machines are in full force.
Politics and Politicians suck, its a wonder anything gets done with all the finger pointing, bickering, and backstabbing.

The tip on the info for the search warrant was given by a left leaning group. Interesting that it is <3 weeks before the election.
Weldon does a great job for this area. He will be sadly missed if he loses.

Hey, John Murtha does a great job, too, and won two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Doesn't keep a bunch of folks from slamming him. You're right, Cappy, it's a wonder jacksh*t gets done.

we have the same sort of thing happening here. I will not vote for the incumbent. If he didn't know that a contract was given to a higher bidder because of a campaign donation promise....well then, he should have.
I don't question timing on this case, I think with elections coming up, it would be common to look into where other candidate's funds are coming from. I don't think the timing is a question of looking at the democrats and thinking they sat on information. They probably delved into the incumbents financials and turned up something very questionable. I say good for them. If something turns out to be not-so-legit, let the voters decide if they want a not-so-honest guy in office.

Yep and over on the other side, Harry Reid is giving bonuses to the help at the hotel where he lives from campaign contributions. Big no-no, that.

cripes, by the time elections roll around, there won't be an honest guy standing.
surprise, surprise
well, at least Reid's recipients were probably innocent (or ignorant, at least) of wrongdoing rather than the handshake/eye wink usual dealings.

I agree on that one. A waiter, doorman and maid are not usually in the "power loop". Not to defend the guy, but campaign funds use has a huge grey area on what's OK and not OK. Whatever.
Where's Dyonisius whan you need him ?
