I would like to ride more mountain races. I like going up and down, with latter being my favorite. However, I was told that I might need some special skills in order to make the most of the high-speed descent. I would appreciate any Descending tips since this would help me to be faster.

Riding down hill is thrilling. You are tempted to let your bike go as fast as it can. However, it requires a combination of skills that are like those in motorcycling. Since a descending bicycle seems to have some of the power and speed that is typical for motorcycles, it also requires some of the same skills. These skills require a combination of lean angle and braking. You also need to choose an appropriate line through curves. Since bicycle tires have little margin for slip, even a small slip on pavement usually falls beyond recovery. Some riders understand the forces involved and how to control them more easily than others do. I suggest you talk to the experienced mountain racers who will provide you with valuable tips.
