"A lot of people run a race to see who's the fastest. I run to see who has the most guts."
- Steve Prefontaine
Runners just do it - they run for the finish line even if someone else has reached it first. ~Author Unknown

"Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?' "

I guess Steve Prefontaine's "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" is too common to mention..

also when my school hosted the olymic runner billy mills he said something about when he was running the race in tokyo before he pulled his amazing sprint that won the race the USA
"And while i was running on that back stretch all i could think about was i could stop right here...i could pull off the track and fall right into that japanese official and the cameras wouldnt see it and nobody would know i failed...but then i started thinking...ok maybe on the next lap..and then next thing i knew..i had only one lap left and i started thinking...maybe i can just pull by this guy.."
if you have ever heard billys story then you know that this is the point where he passed the men who had the best odds...and even tho im sure none of us runners plan on running a 10k around a track..any distance track runner has had this feeling of "ok i can give up right here and nobody would think less of me" but then you just keep going..

I on the other hand have..
It is one of the hardest events I have ever done in my life!
And I run cross country ,800's 400's and 100 meter hurdles.
So I completely disagree and am sightly offended by this.
