Posted: 05/21/05 - 19:01 Post subject: Beginner has some running questions...
Hello all,
I have found your very informative site today and since I have just began running again I need to ask some questions. I am 17 years old and am joing the Canadian military this summer. I have recently started running again on a regular basis. Right now I am running 2.4 km almost everyday. (2.4 km is the distance they use to time you to see if your fit enough). Right now I am running the 2.4 km in about 10 minutes on average. Since I have just started up again I can tell my legs need some work. the other thing is I would like to start going longer distances, but i'm not sure how to approach it. any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forums Righty. The first step to take towards getting better in your 2.4k time is to start varying the distance you run each time out. On alternate days begin running a little bit longer each time even though you may need to go at a slower pace. As your body adapts to the added distance you will see your time for the 2. 4 k come down.

I agree. To get you stronger for the 2.4k, you should run longer. It'll really help your times for your target distance.

thanks everyone for the great advice... I think ill do the 2.4 km run twice which is almost 5 km. And there is a good sized hill near me which should get me legs conditioned...
Thanks again!
